The High & Mighty

It is a good thing I’m sure that I don’t write about everything I have an opinion about. This morning I’m reading an article concerning Chick-fil-A and the city council of Pittsburgh, Pa, demanding the Chicken Giant of fast-food be stripped of its top-sponsorship of an event for children, (kids marathon).*

Both the city council and the local school board apparently feel that anyone holding an opinion that doesn’t conform to their ideology must be banned from participating in this thing called life.

Yes, once again Chick-fil-A is being tarred and feathered for not sharing the beliefs of “LGBT-ism,” and of course for their stance on family and marriage.

After reading only the first few paragraphs of the article, I opened “Word” and prepared to type out my tirade against the city council and schoolboard.

But, and I can say this with all sincerity, that The Holy Spirit has saved all of you from hearing that tirade as well as my disdain for those who love freedom of speech and expression; that is until it counters their beliefs.

If you’ve followed my journey in an attempt to be a blogger of sorts, you know I’m pretty inconsistent, as I can go weeks and even months without writing a single blurb.

There’s a good reason why I don’t write consistently; in a timely manner, and that’s because God is constantly putting roadblocks (writer’s block) ahead of me.

Over the past year or so, I have learned why it is that I so often encounter this thing we call, writer’s-block.

When I first began writing, I wrote to let you know what things I was against. I also wrote to express my anger, as it were, at reading or hearing stories such as this one about Chick-fil-A.

However, by God’s grace over the past year or so, I’ve come to learn three distinct things that God wants from me.

One is that He wants me to tell you not what I am against but rather what I am for. Secondly, and most importantly, as a minister, I have discerned that my first and foremost purpose is to glorify God and my Lord, Jesus Christ.

The third, actually a part of the second, is that it’s not my purpose to “change” you. My purpose it to point you to Jesus; to the One who changed me.

To that end, I see little value in writing about my disdain for the city council and school board of Pittsburg; even though it would make me feel better.

But, again, it shouldn’t be about me feeling better, it must be about glorifying God and Christ Jesus. Praising God through my Lord, Jesus; that has made me feel better.

Postscript: The moment I finished writing this article, I learned of the shooting taking place at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. This is the reason I did not publish it at the time. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who’s lives were lost and injured and to their families. May God love them all.
