Sharing Your Faith

Greetings friends,

There has been a lot of talk about “revival” floating around the country (United States) in recent times, and so I’d like to add to the conversation. First, we should be the ones perhaps on the receiving end of the whip when we far too frequently flog the larger church. It is important for us to never forget that we are a part of the church and that, to some extent, the absence of any revival on our own parts results in the absence of revival in the larger church (Spurgeon, 1856 as cited in Foster & Smith, 1993).

Let’s examine a discussion among numerous Christians. Listen to what the typical professing Christian has to say. What will they discuss at the dinner table on Sunday night? Unless they want to bring up some flaws, it won’t be about the pastor’s sermon. They will likely not discuss their faith with you from January to December. We don’t talk enough about Jesus and our faith.

I believe we have made progress in helping some Christians begin to live like Christians every day and not just on Sunday mornings. However, I cannot deny that our mission is nowhere close to being complete. Why is talking about Jesus and our faith with others so difficult?

If we, who call ourselves Christians are true Christians, why are we not sharing our faith and Jesus with family, friends, and others? One indicator of a mature Christian is their capacity to impart spiritual truth to others (Wiersbe, 2009, 2nd Ed. p. 73). When will we begin to trust Jesus instead of the world. When will we shed our fear of sharing our faith with others?

Dr. Wiersby (2009) says, “It is impossible to stand still in the Christian life: we either go forward and claim God’s blessing, or we go back and wander about aimlessly (p. 75).

The majority of the church has veered significantly from biblical evangelism, which is the sharing of the gospel in the same manner as Jesus, the apostle Paul, and the other disciples and prophets in the Bible did (Kirk Cameron, n.d.). We have many excuses and are very busy but never forget that someone’s eternal destiny is on the line. One person sharing Jesus with another is God’s very simple plan for growing His kingdom (Charles Stanley, n.d.).
